There's also a rather new edition of DB2 called Express-C, which is not only free (zero-cost), but also allows remote incoming connections.
I started off to install it, then I was asked some questions about starting up the server as a service etc. I didnt want DB2 to be installed in such a why that it did some stuff on system startup. I wanted it to be a database that I can startup whenever I wanted it to.
I acually wanted to test out writing some stored procedures using Java and also using an external Java API for connecting to JMS provider.
